This interview with Clarissa Campolina and Sérgio Borges explores the creative process behind Suçuarana (2025), a project grounded in their collaborative practice developed since the TEIA collective. Rather than adapting Henry James’s The Beast in the Jungle, the filmmakers use it as a conceptual springboard to shape Dora, a protagonist defined by restlessness and displacement. Their method of directing—deeply informed by documentary experience—combines professional actors with members of real communities, such as the Guarda de Moçambique of Ouro Preto, producing a hybrid space between representation and lived experience.
