This paper analyses the Neocities platform as a space that articulates nostalgia, hauntology, and critiques of the contemporary corporate internet. The objective is to understand how the revival of aesthetics and dynamics associated with the early days of the internet mobilises imaginaries of unrealised futures. Based on a theoretical overview of the historical transformations of the internet and a qualitative analysis of the platform and its ten most followed websites, the study identifies formal elements, meanings, practices, and modes of sociability. The results indicate that, although marked by references to the past, the Neocities experience operates less as a pure return and more as a symbolic dispute for other ways of inhabiting the network.
