Abstract

This study investigates how nostalgia is mobilized in YouTube comments on Digimon opening videos and theme songs. Using a qualitative and inductive approach, the research analyzes six videos and 143 Portuguese-language comments selected from among the most liked. Drawing on studies regarding memory, media, platforms, and nostalgia, four forms of nostalgic manifestation are identified: lived memory, childhood recollections, affective heritage, and explicitly stated emotion. The results show that nostalgia manifests within the tension between different affective dispositions and ways of relating to the past. The analysis also demonstrates that YouTube plays a role in the reactivation, circulation, and updating of these memories. It concludes that nostalgia constitutes a socially mediated experience, produced through the relationship between subjects, media objects, and the materialities of digital platforms.
