Abstract

This text is a book review of “The Lebanon Uprising of 2019: Voices from the Revolution”, published in 2023. First, I highlight the book’s interdisciplinary analysis of the 2019 social protests in Lebanon from the perspective of social sciences, economics, and international studies. I then review its main themes, such as theoretical discussions about the revolution, the dialectic between revolution and counterrevolution, the current political and economic situation in Lebanon, the different tactics used in the protests, and the main actors. Finally, this book review highlights the relevance of the book in terms of its academic contribution due to the high-level analyses by experts in Lebanese studies and the insightful theoretical tools used to understand the revolution in Lebanon. Moreover, I point out that, “The Lebanon Uprising of 2019” is interesting because it does not leave out any details of the activists' experiences on the ground. In conclusion, this book has the potential to be an important reference work for the study of revolutions not only in Lebanon but also  elsewhere.
