O campo de estudo denominado de Análise de Política Externa (APE)[1]é o estudo das condutas e das práticas nas relações entre diferentes atores inseridos no sistema internacional. Logo, constituem insumos importantes à Análise de Política Externa, a diplomacia, estudos de informação e inteligência, negociações comerciais e questões culturais, dentre outras que sejam direta e indiretamente atreladas aos atores internacionais, seu comportamento e seu processo de tomada de decisão. Repousa nessa frase a primeira contribuição da obra de Chris Alden e Amnon Aran. Diferentemente do que é alardeado nos cursos de Relações Internacionais e em obras da área, a Análise de Política Externa desenvolveu-se como uma área distinta e separada do conteúdos basilar do estudo das Relações Internacionais.
