An African reading of the parable of the mines (Lk 19, 11-28)

Abstract
In Africa, the Matthaean parable of the talents (Mt 25:14-30) is often used in preaching and in Magisterial texts. On the other hand, the Lucan parable of the mines (Lk 19, 11-28) is less well known. According to the evangelist, Jesus spoke it before entering Jerusalem for his passion, resurrection and ascension. But what does it say in particular about Jesus and the kingdom? How can it be read in an African context? To answer these questions, we will use complementary synchronic, diachronic and contextual approaches. We will do this in four stages. We begin with a synchronic study, presenting the parable itself. We will then move on to a diachronic study, before highlighting some of the theological emphases of the parable and proposing some contextual readings. Is it not a parable that provokes us to dare to be inventive?
