Focus and Scope
INTERAÇÕES is a scientific journal published by the Graduate Program in Religious Studies of the Department of Religious Studies – PUC Minas. It has the mission of disseminating Religion Studies and Theology and its related areas.
Objectives:
- This journal aims to be an instrument of interdisciplinary debate between national and international researchers in Religious Studies and Theology area, aiming to interact the acquired knowledge and contribute to the consolidation of this field of studies of religion.
- To disseminate the intellectual production of researchers, teachers, and postgraduate students in the area and related areas, preserving rigor and quality.
- Stimulate, promote, and contribute to the development of the exchange of scientific production in Religious Studies and Theology areas at national and international levels.
Target Audience:
INTERAÇÕES is a scientific journal with an interdisciplinary nature and its target audience is researchers, teachers, and graduate students in the Religious Studies and Theology areas and its related fields.

INTERAÇÕES welcomes contributions in Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, and English.
Knowledge subareas:
INTERAÇÕES publishes articles covering the disciplines of Religious Studies and Theology and must be included in the following knowledge subareas: Theory and Method in Religious Studies; Applied Religious Studies; Religious Studies: Discursive Aspects; Religious Studies: Empirical Approaches; History of Theologies and Religions; Practical Theology; Systematic Theology; Religious Studies: Sacred Traditions and Texts.
The Keywords must necessarily include the basic disciplines (Religious Studies or Theology) and one of the subareas of knowledge described above. INTERAÇÕES publishes the following types of papers: theoretical research, applied research, field research, documentary research, interview, historical research, literature review, empirical field research, case analysis, bibliographic research, phenomenological research, etc.

Peer Review Process
In the INTERAÇÕES evaluation policy, the author will be notified of the receipt of his collaboration within up to fifteen working days.
The papers received will be initially evaluated by the Editors.
All submission conditions compliance will be evaluated: the veracity of authorship and co-authorship data, the existence of plagiarism or self-plagiarism using specialized search tools, and the originality of the publication, all these tasks will be done within thirty days. If the Journal Guidelines has been followed, the submitted papers will be sent to the evaluation of two or more members of the Advisory Council or ad hoc reviewers, with the recognized skills in the knowledge area, with the guarantee of secrecy and anonymity of both the author and the reviewer (double-blind review).
The deadline for a definitive answer to the author of the submitted paper for evaluation, is up to thirty working days, counted from the end of the peer-review process.
The authors will receive the decision to publish or not their texts and, if applicable, the probable date of publication. Each volume of INTERAÇÕES will have a minimum of eighteen and a maximum of twenty works.
The consultant reviewer's opinion will be ratified by the Editorial Board and the author will be communicated immediately.
In case of controversy, when the consultant reviewers disagree on the final decision, it will be carried up to the Editorial Board to decide on the final result, which may indicate a third blind review evaluation.
The author whose paper has been accepted for publication must grant, when requested, through the journal's submission form, authorization to publish the final version edited by INTERAÇÕES.
If the paper is accepted for publication, the journal allows itself to introduce formatting and editing adjustments to facilitate the publication process.
The proposals, approved with specific restrictions, will be sent back to the authors for reformulation. The modified version must be forwarded within a maximum period of fifteen days after receiving the notification. The author must include a letter to the editor, clarifying the changes that have been made and justifying those he does not consider pertinent. The changes should be in red. If the modifications do not meet the requests made by the consultant reviewers, the Editorial Committee reserves the right to refuse them.
The rejected papers may be re-submitted after a substantial reformulation, as indicated by the consultant reviewers, within a minimum period of ninety working days. In this case, they may be resent again to the same consultant who previously evaluated them.
INTERAÇÕES seeks as a standard procedure to make the best edition and prepare the text of the papers already accepted. Aiming for clarity and coherence in the exhibition of ideas INTERAÇÕES reserves itself the right of contacting again the authors to resolve questions and make suggestions whenever deemed necessary. Changes in structure or the content of the paper will not be incorporated without the author's agreement.
The final decision on the publication or not of the submitted papers is reserved to the board of editors, taking into account the evaluation process.
The deadlines mentioned above depends on the availability of the consulting board ad hoc.
Publication Frequency
The INTERAÇÕES journal publishes its articles in an ahead of print basis, with a biannual closing period between January-June and July-December.
Open Access Policy
This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater worldwide democratization of knowledge.
INTERAÇÕES does not request payment of fees for submission or publication.
Archiving
This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed file system among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent journal files for preservation and restoration. Read more...

Journal History
INTERAÇÕES is a biannual publication of the Department of Religious Studies – PUC Minas. Starting in 2023 it has been published in ahead-of-print basis.
Founded in 2006, the journal was initially in charge of the Faculdade Católica de Uberlândia (v.1 n. 1, 2006 - v. 8. n. 13, 2013) under the name INTERAÇÕES: cultura e comunidade. The journal has already been published in print and electronic versions until 2012 since 2013 it has only an electronic version.
With the aquisition of the Faculdade Católica de Uberlândia by Sociedade Mineira de Cultura (SMC), the maintainer of PUC Minas, the journal Interações: Cultura e Comunidade became part of the PUC Minas Journals Portal and had its name changed to INTERAÇÕES that since 2013 (v. 8, n. 14) is under the responsability of Religious Studies Department.
In its editorial board, the publication has a managing editor who is a researcher-teacher from Graduate Program in Religious Studies and its associated editors are students of the Doctoral Course in a teaching stage. Among the members of its advisory board, INTERAÇÕES counts on researchers from the vast field of religious studies in the country and abroad.
The journal is indexed in national and international agencies and is also present in the Indexers: REDALYC, LATINDEX, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), ERIHPLUS, in the national repositories and databases: PORTAL DE PERIÓDICOS DA CAPES, SUMÁRIOS. org, Free Access Journals(LIVRE), PERIÓDICOS DE MINAS, Diadorim, and in the international data repositories: AMELICA, Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek, WorldCat, REDIB, PKP (Public Knowledge Project)/ Open Archives Harvester. It is also registered in the DOI system and is a signatory to The Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
This journal is rated as Qualis CAPES A2 in the quadrennial evaluation period 2017-2021. The publication collaborates, in this way, with the consolidation of its area of knowledge by receiving the bibliographic and technical production of teachers, students, masters and doctors, individually or in co-authorship, of the area of Science of Religion and Theology as well as areas and disciplines related to the studies of religion.
In its history, INTERAÇÕES focuses primarily on the area of knowledge of Religious Studies, but also receives works in Theology, Philosophy of Religion, Social Sciences of Religion, and related areas to the studies of religion, according to the subareas of the tree of knowledge of Religious and Theology, i.e.:
- Applied Religious Studies;
- Religious Studies: Discursive Aspects;
- Religious Studies: Empirical Approaches;
- Theory and Method in Religious Studies;
- History of Theologies and Religions;
- Systematic Theology;
- Practical Theology;
- Religious Studies: Sacred Traditions and Texts.
Each number of INTERAÇÕES is made up of the following sections:
- Articles (scientific articles on free themes related to the area);
- Debates and Communications (scientific communications, research reports (synthetic version), interviews, essays, translations, and reports of events in the area;
- Book Reviews (critical review of work published in the area);
- Editorial.

Code of ethics and good editorial practices
INTERAÇÕES is committed to keeping its scientific quality and the ethical standards of its editorial process, for this reason, it adopts the rules of the National Research Council (CNPq - Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa) contained in the report of the CNPq Research Integrity Commission <http://www.cnpq.br/documents/10157/a8927840-2b8f-43b9-8962-5a2ccfa74dda > (in Portuguese), the rules of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) contained in the Code of Conduct and best practices guidelines <http://publicationethics.org/resources/code-conduct> and the International Standards for SciELO Editors http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0100-15742014000100011 (in Portuguese).
INTERAÇÕES considers that the attention to ethical principles is fundamental in the editorial process. The checklist verifies the originality and innovation of the paper, the existence of plagiarism and self-plagiarism, as well as the veracity of the data reported and assumed in the submission.
Among the ethical values, the truth, consistency, and honesty, the academic autonomy and freedom of authors and evaluators are protected. It is postulated the right and the duty to have an academic debate about evaluations, observations, and criticisms of the texts.
All people involved in the editorial process must strive for strict academic rigor, as well as values of kindness, cordiality, and mutual respect.
The ethical elements of the publication in INTERAÇÕES are present in “Conditions for submission” and in “Peer Review Process”. Beyond that, this journal expresses its ethics of publication in “Copyright Notice” and in the “Creative Commons License 4.0 International”.
To correct ethical issues of a scientific article or published paper INTERAÇÕES follows its "Anti-plagiarism Policies". The problems of authorship or non-originality issues are corrected according to the "Retraction Policy".
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE AUTHORS
- Inform the correct data for identification, institutional affiliation, ORCID, and registration on the Lattes Platform;
- Inform the research funding institution (development agencies and / or Higher Education Institution), if any;
- Do not falsify and build data, manipulate citations, information, or data, valuing the correct registration of this information and sources;
- Do not practice plagiarism or self-plagiarism or manipulate citations to foment the impact factor;
- To assume an ethical and responsible attitude regarding the content presented;
- Ensure originality and originality of the work;
- Correctly identify the data of authors and co-authors.
- Inform conflicts of interest, if any;
- Be available to correct the work according to guidelines of the consultants', when necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF EDITORS AND EDITORIAL ADVISERS
- Ensure the confidentiality and secrecy of authors and evaluators;
- Ensure the editorial content and the quality of the journal's edition;
- Ensure open and free access to the publication of scientific knowledge disseminated through the journal;
- Identify and report possible conflicts of interest that may affect editorial decisions, whether those of an academic, financial, personal or political nature;
- Treat authors, consultant reviewers with cordiality and respect, valuing throughout the process the dialogic and academically consistent posture, ensuring clear and objective communication with the scientific community;
- Perform the checklist of the submitted files ensuring their adequacy to the focus, scope, and objectives of the journal;
- Ensure compliance with ethical and scientific principles related to the journal.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONSULTANT REVIEWERS
- Inform, whenever necessary, if there is a conflict of interest, whether those are academic, financial, personal or political;
- Ensure the confidentiality of the evaluation, guaranteeing and carrying out the blind evaluation;
- Proceed in the evaluation with strict academic rigor, constructing the opinion to guide the improvement of the work even in situations where the opinion is due to the failure of the work;
- Acting voluntarily, aware of the importance of their collaboration for the scientific-academic development of the area;
- Inform possible conflicts of interest that may occur when evaluating an article, whether academic, financial, personal, or political, and decline from the evaluation;
- Do not induce or favor citations that aim to benefit authors, evaluators, or promote an increase in impact factors.
Anti-plagiarism Policies
When there is proof of publication with significant duplication or redundancy, by the Editor and/or the consultant reviewer who has evaluated the article, the author will be asked to provide clarifications. If there is guilt and/or an unintended error, due to the lack of clarity of the Instructions to Authors, or his or her inexperience, the article will be rejected with the proper explanation of the journal's posture and expected behavior in the future. If there is no response from the author, the Editor will contact the institution of origin of the author, informing his superiors and/or the person responsible for the taken solution by the editorial team. The consultant will also be notified of the solution. In case of lesser importance of similarity, the author will be asked to reference the original works or eliminate the similarity so that the evaluation can proceed.
Retraction Policy
The standards regarding public retractions for INTERAÇÕES will be the presentation of the text of the retraction by those responsible, with their reasons and then the original full text, maintaining the same distribution of the pages and, in the summary, it will start with the expression “[Article Reviewed]”. The PDF of the article must have marks in the background with the expression “Article Reviewed”. This process must go through the team of editors, the Editorial Committee, and the seal of at least three members of the Editorial Board.
