Abstract

This article aims to discuss aspects that contribute to the relationship between literature and the Bible, as well as elements that disfavor it. To this end, it was presented the analysis of two arguments that serve as obstacles to this relationship: the Bible as sacred text and the need for historical evidence of its pericopes. In addition, we developed two arguments that contribute to the approximation: the influence of the biblical text on literature and the consideration of the theological element in the biblical analysis. The application of elements of literary theory to biblical texts allows exegetical-hermeneutical progress. Considering the Bible as literature does not exclude the benefits brought by classical biblical research; otherwise, it allows discussing them through new elements.
