Abstract
Este artigo analisa a relação entre religiosidade afro-brasileira e homossexualidade masculina. Percorrer-se-á algumas contribuições antropológicas que focalizaram a participação ritual de homens homossexuais no candomblé baiano, nas “religiões africanas” do Recife, na “macumba” paraense e na umbanda carioca. A partir da leitura do material bibliográfico, percebeu-se que há um semelhante leque de explicações a respeito da adesão homossexual aos cultos afro-brasileiros. Dentre elas, pode-se destacar a minimização do preconceito sexual no interior das comunidades-terreiro; o fascínio despertado graças aos aspectos estéticos, lúdicos e festivos inerentes às festas de orixá; a associação entre homossexualidade masculina e possessão ritual e, por fim, a sexualidade mítica agindo como modelo na construção de identidades sexuais e de gênero.
