Abstract
Considerando o ER - Ensino Religioso como uma disciplina, parte integrante do currículo da educação básica, e sua finalidade como sendo a busca da ampliação da visão de mundo por parte dos educandos e, ao mesmo tempo, a compreensão e vivência do autenticamente humano, neste trabalho buscamos evidenciar a tensão, presente no estudo da religião, entre a instituição e a experiência religiosa. Propomos que o ER supere a redução entre o estudo da instituição religiosa e a experiência religiosa. Tratando especificamente do cristianismo, apresentamos como um caminho possível a volta às suas origens, considerando o monaquismo cristão.
