Abstract
Este texto tem como objetivo traçar os aspectos históricos da formação do Grêmio Recreativo e Familiar Flor de Maio e seu papel na constituição da identidade e organizações negras do município de São Carlos, interior paulista. Esse clube inicialmente nasce da necessidade da população negra de um espaço de lazer e encontros. Seu desenvolvimento leva à formação de uma identidade negra positiva, a qual foi a base da constituição das futuras organizações negras de São Carlos.
