Abstract
Este artigo investiga o movimento reivindicatório dos praças da Polícia Militar de Minas Gerais, ocorrido em Belo Horizonte no final do primeiro semestre de 1997. Procura-se, para isso: analisar a corporação Polícia Militar - PM revelando a hierarquia e a disciplina enquanto pilares militarizantes, bem como, compreender a emergência de um novo repertório da ação coletiva policial militar. O trabalho evidencia o choque entre a cultura militar, expressa por preceitos referentes a valores e normas institucionais da PM, e uma cultura política relacionada à democratização que se passa nas
sociedades contemporâneas, junto às coletividades que a almejam, a partir de uma linguagem política de representações, gestos e ritos, um mesmo ideal.
