This article aims to describe the patterns of the textual organization of the academic squib genre, with a view to understanding the specifics of its production and reading process. The relevance of this study comes from the lack of research with this focus. Based on the theoretical methodological benchmark proposed by Swales (1990), Bhatia (1993), Miller (1994) and Motta-Roth and Hendges (2010), ten squibs published on academic magazines of the linguistics area, will be analysed on the attempt of verifying if there are recurrence of moves and rhetorical steps between them. As a result, it was possible to point to certain tendencies of textual organization, making it possible to carry out a mapping of the movements and rhetorical units of this genre.
