This paper is an exploratory study that aims to investigate the use of irtoys and ltm packages, specific for Item Response Theory (IRT) analysis in the R software. The data used are from the 2014 National Examination of Student Performance (ENADE) applied to the undergraduate course in Production Engineering. ENADE is a compulsory curricular component of undergraduate courses, in which concluding students participate. The results show that, in general, the two packages offer the same functionalities and are stable in the applications studied. We concluded that both packages can aid in the analysis and interpretation, constituting a useful tool to complement the teaching and learning of IRT.
