Abstract

This text focuses on the participation of journalist Carol Barcellos in the episode "Ultramaratona do Atacama" (Atacama Ultramarathon) from the television program "Planeta Extremo," broadcast on TV Globo. The objective, with such a focus, is to discuss the representation of the journalist, seeking to interpret the presence and gender performativity in this production. The hypothesis that guided the text was that in this television program, the female journalist specialized in adventure sports embodies the ideological attributes associated with the "new woman," although paradoxically, some conservative conceptions still persist in the program. In methodological terms, the approach briefly traces the entry of women into the workforce, including journalism, and then analyzes its subject, employing an approach that considers both the narrative and visual aspects of the production.
