The article analyzes, under the prism of Greimas' discursive semiotics, news published in the Brazilian print media about the candidates for president of Brazil, between the years 1989 to 2018. The study contemplates the syncretic interactions between verbal and verbal language. visual, focusing on publications by O Estado de S.Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, Veja, Isto É, Exame and Época. Thematic and figurative isotopies are identified that reconstruct gender stereotypes, placing women in a position of “submissive” and “dependent” on the male, that is, as an actant who cannot establish herself as a subject, remaining in the role of “helper”, who is incapable of performing tasks required by the political office held and/or desired.
