Analysis of the body through sensory performance in a História da Eternidade

Abstract

This article analyzes the sensory performance of the song Fala in the film A história da eternidade (2014), investigating how cinema can utilize the bodily triad to create aesthetic, affective, and emotionally engaging sensations, thereby offering new perspectives on narrative and the construction of meaning. Methodologically, a film analysis with an aesthetic-discursive approach is conducted, focusing on the breakdown of the scene in articulation with the concepts of regime of attractions, silence, photogenia, and embodied affect. It is concluded that the performance can be understood as a regime of attractions by momentarily suspending the narrative flow, establishing an expanded space of sensory experience, where the body on screen ceases to be functional to the plot to exist for the pure pleasure of presence, affect, and expression; allowing the evocation of a deep visceral spectatorial experience through complete bodily immersion.
