rearticulating media coverage of sport in Cachoeira/BA as a form of resistance

Abstract

The article discusses how it is possible to dismantle hegemonic, masculine and central coverage of football in Cachoeira/BA – as a theme and also as who (and how) produces and conducts it. As well as giving new meaning to the idea of sport and sports journalism in the city by broadcasting tournaments that are not considered historically relevant, such as women's tournaments and tournaments in rural areas. Perceiving the media as a vector of contribution to activism to deconstruct what was previously given - in a movement understood by Haesbaert (2021) of deterritorialization, this struggle appears as a force of record for (re)construction of documented memory of women's sport in the city acting, on some scale as a power of transformation.

Itania Gomes, Federal University of Bahia

Itania Maria Mota Gomes is a retired professor from the Federal University of Bahia, a permanent professor at the Postgraduate Program in Contemporary Communication and Culture at UFBA, and a CNPQ Research Productivity Fellow. Visiting Professor at PPGCOM/UFRB. She has a PhD in Contemporary Communication and Culture from UFBA and coordinator of the Research Center for Cultural Studies and Transformations in Communication.
